Children’s Hospital

Techies4TempleStreet is a unique fundraising initiative founded 4 years ago as a way to galvanise support from the Irish tech industry for Temple Street Children’s Hospital. The brainchild of Tom Kennedy, co-founder of Hostelworld, the event aims to bring top Irish businesses and the tech sector together for a day of fun, all while raising life-saving funds for Temple Street. This year we are aiming to have 1500 people take part from 150 companies, with an ambitious fundraising target of €250,000.

So how does it all work?

Companies enter teams of 6-10 people to take part in a team-building treasure hunt that uses digital technology leading participants around Dublin City solving clues, tackling puzzles and competing in physical challenges to win points. The winning team is crowned Ireland’s ‘Smartest Techies’ at the after-party, where participants are fed and can relax with a few drinks after all their hard work. The event truly is a win-win, as companies enjoy a full team building day out, all while raising life-saving funds for Temple Street. But don’t take our word for it, check out the video of last year’s event here and see for yourself what it’s all about!

“T4TS brought us together as a team while also raising money for such a great cause! We had such a great day running around Dublin City and we are already looking forward to next year. Thank you to all the organizers of this event – we had such a great time!“

We are lucky enough to have the support of some heavy-hitting industry names on our organising committee, with Tom Kennedy, Ray Nolan (XSellCo), Sharon McCooey (LinkedIn), Colum Twomey (Zendesk), John Beckett (ChannelSight) and Nicola McClafferty (Draper Esprit) to name but a few. Companies who have taken part include Zendesk, LinkedIn, AIB, Arthur Cox, Bearing Point, Accenture, Datalex, Indeed.com and countless others. This year we are hoping to spread the word far and wide through the tech and business communities and really cement Techies4TempleStreet as a must-attend date on the tech calendar.

“To bring tech teams together for a team-building treasure hunt around the city for such a fantastic cause is a brilliant idea and one we’re delighted to be a part of. Our teams have participated in Techies4TempleStreet since 2015 and each year the feedback is better and better. It’s a fun day out for the team and is a standing event on our calendar each year – we wouldn’t miss it!

The impact Techies4TempleStreet has had on our hospital is truly incredible.

The event has already raised almost €600,000 and we cannot thank all the sponsors, teams and who made this possible. This has gone towards the purchase of essential life-saving equipment, and almost €400,000 was contributed to the new €5.5m Neurology and Renal Outpatients Unit at Temple Street, which opened in January 2018. A Techies4TempleStreet clinical treatment on the neurology floor recognises the amazing contribution made to this project by our Techies teams. This state-of- the-art treatment centre will see 6,500 patients come through its doors each year and provide the best possible hospital experience for our little patients.

Patients like Myles, who at 16 days old was admitted to Temple Street with a rare kidney condition called Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome, which means the filter on his kidneys did not function properly. Myles’ kidneys had to be removed, which meant he needed dialysis every single day and the toxins in his bloodstream meant he could not run around and play or he would risk being sick. Myles’ world completely turned around at the end of 2016, when his uncle was a match and he got the kidney transplant he had been waiting for. He is still a regular face at Temple Street, attending the Renal Outpatients Clinic regularly for check-ups, but thankfully he is thriving following this serious operation. Myles and his family are absolutely delighted with the new Outpatients Unit, which means more private consultation areas, a roomy waiting and play area and the most up to date equipment on hand.

We are currently hard at work identifying the most essential equipment needed by the hospital which the Techies4TempleStreet 2018 funds will be used to buy.

A brilliantly organised event for a great cause. The treasure trail challenge proved the perfect day for team bonding and networking with other companies in a relaxed, fun environment. We’re already looking forward to taking part again next year.
