Stewart Copeland

Founder & Drummer of The Police. Seasoned Composer

Stewart Copeland has been a pioneering force in contemporary music for over four decades, seamlessly blending rock, classical, opera, and world music. A seven-time Grammy winner, he is best known as the founder of The Police, whose innovative sound defined a generation of rock in the 1980s.
Beyond rock, Copeland’s classical works include Tyrant’s Crush (Pittsburgh Symphony), Poltroons in Paradise (Royal Liverpool Philharmonic), and Gamelan D’Drum (Dallas Symphony). His operatic achievements feature adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado and The Tell-Tale Heart, and The Witches Seed, which premiered in Italy in 2022 and returns for three new productions in 2024.
In 2025, Copeland launches Wild Concerto in collaboration with Martyn Stewart and Platoon (Apple Inc.), premiering on Earth Day at King’s Place, London. He will also debut a percussion commission with The Juilliard School in New York and at the Aspen Festival.
A renowned composer for film and television, his scores include Rumble Fish (Golden Globe-nominated), Wall Street, Four Days in September (Oscar-nominated), and contributions to The Equalizer, Babylon 5, Desperate Housewives, and the video game Spyro the Dragon.
Copeland has presented acclaimed BBC documentaries and the podcast My Dad The Spy. His accolades include induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a knighthood from France’s Order of Arts and Letters, and the 2024 Meadows Award for Artistry of International Renown.

Hiroshi Ishii

Hiroshi Ishii is the Jerome B. Wiesner Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Media Lab. He was named Media Lab Associate Director in May 2008. He is the director of the Tangible Media Group which he founded in 1995 to pursue new visions in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI): “Tangible Bits” and “Radical Atoms.” Ishii and his team have presented their research at a variety of scientific, design, and artistic venues (including ACM SIGCHI, SIGGRAPH, Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, Milan Design Week, Cannes Lions Festival, Aspen Ideas Festival, Industrial Design Society of America, AIGA, Ars Electronica, Centre Pompidou, Victoria and Albert Museum and NTT ICC) emphasizing that the development of a vision requires the rigors of both scientific and artistic review. In 2006 Ishii was elected to the CHI Academy by ACM SIGCHI, and received the SIGCHI Lifetime Research Award in 2019. He was named an ACM Fellow in 2022 for his contributions to Tangible User Interfaces and to Human-Computer Interaction.

Prior to joining the MIT Media Lab, from 1988-1994, Ishii led the CSCW research group at NTT Human Interface Laboratories Japan, where he and his team invented TeamWorkStation and ClearBoard.

Professor Mariarosaria Taddeo

Mariarosaria Taddeo is Professor of Digital Ethics and Defence Technology at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. She is the Director of the Digital Ethics and Defence Technologies
Research Group. She is the author of ‘The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Defence’ (Oxford Univeristy Press). Since 2020, Taddeo serves in the Ethics Advisory Committee to the UK Ministry of Defence. Her research has been published in major journals like Nature, Nature Machine Intelligence, Science, and Science Robotics. Her work focuses mainly on the ethical analysis of artificial intelligence(AI), ethics of AI for national defence, cybersecurity, cyber conflicts, and ethics of nolodigital innovation. Throughtout her carreer she has received multiple awards. In 2023 she was awarded the title of ‘Grande Ufficiale al Merito della Repubblica Italiana’ from the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Matttarella. She also received the 2010 Simon Award for Outstanding Research in Computing and Philosophy; the 2016 World Technology Award for Ethics. In 2018, InspiringFifty named her among the most inspiring 50 Italian women working in technology. ORBIT listed her among the top 100 women working on Ethics of AI in the world. She is one of the twelve 2020 ‘Outstanding Rising Talents’ named by the Women’s Forum for Economy and Society.
Since 2016, Taddeo serves as editor-in-chief of Minds & Machines (SpringerNature) and of Philosophical Studies Series (SpringerNature).
